Annual Awareness Campaign Closing Event & Honoring of the Teen Poster Contest Winners

February 12, 2015 / San Francisco Main Public Library, Koret Auditorium SFCAHT culminated a month of raising awareness with a special youth-focused event. Youth from across the Bay Area gathered to share experiences in anti-trafficking advocacy and prevention. Speakers shared at the event how youth can help fight human trafficking in our own back yard and rescue the victims. There were many special youth performances and presentations. The National Council of Jewish Women San Francisco Section (NCJWSF) announced their newly created, "Nancy Surkin Memorial Scholarship for Survivors of Human Trafficking.” Debra Surkin (middle), daughter of Nancy Elliot Surkin, for whom the honor is named, presented to Sarai T. Smith-Mazariegos (left), Co-Founder of MISSSEY (Motivating, Inspiring, Supporting & Serving Sexually Exploited Youth) the first two awards of this scholarship to youth human trafficking survivors, clients of MISSSEY. The scholarship will be awarded annually to survivors of human trafficking served in the Bay Area. San Francisco Supervisor Katy Tang, District 4 (right), assisted by Human Rights attorney and SFCAHT Steering Committee representative Rose M. Mukhar presented the awards to the winners of the 2015 Teen Poster Contest. The winners shared their artistic process, and the meaning behind their creations. |
