Oakland, CA 94612 BAWAR, the nation’s first rape crisis center, was formed in 1971 to provide 24-hour comprehensive services for all survivors of sexual assault & exploitation and their significant others, whatever their gender, sexual orientation, or ethnicity, whether they were assaulted as an adult or as a child. We are here for all survivors.

All services are free and confidential
We provide crisis intervention and stabilization for survivors of human trafficking. We provide 10-weeks of free and confidential rape crisis counseling. We provide a 24-hour crisis line for survivors who need crisis stabilization. We provide case management for clients 18+. We also provide advocacy for survivors when being interviewed by law enforcement, accompaniment to court, and advocacy during sexual assault examines at the hospital. Coming soon, we will also have a safe space for survivors under 18 to visit between 5pm and 8pm (M-F).
We provide a host of presentations, training, and technical support for anyone interested in knowing more about human trafficking. We also provide technical assistance to organizations seeking to strengthen their role as first responders in human trafficking cases.
